Windows Mobile 7 is being prepped for a 2010 release, according to Microsoft CEO and shouting enthusiast Steve Ballmer, speaking in a conference call this week.
Windows Mobile 7 will reportedly add zooming and scaling to the regular Windows Mobile interface, and there have been rumours of changes that sound suspiciously like the now-patented multitouch.
Also coming to Windows Mobile 7 is a new suite of apps including a completely revamped Internet Explorer.
Ballmer was speaking in a conference call to investors about Microsoft’s projections for the next couple of years. Ballmer cited Windows Mobile as one of Microsoft’s key businesses and said that Windows Mobile 7 was confirmed for next year.
Ballmer also said that more and more technology is likely to be shared between Windows 7 (on the desktop) and Windows Mobile 7 – in particular the web browser technologies will converge, and Microsoft’s Silverlight alternative to Flash will be used on both systems. See, we told you Windows Mobile could learn a thing or two from Windows 7.
