TomTom is being sued by Microsoft. TomTom, one of the world’s leading satnav sellers, has infringed on a Microsoft patent for in car navigation, and sparked the wrath of Redmond’s legal team. Details after the jump!

TomTom is being sued by Microsoft over “in car navigation technology patents”, after a year of legal wrangling, according to a Microsoft boss.

“We have an established intellectual property licensing program, and the patents involved in this case…have been licensed by many others. In situations such as this, when a reasonable business agreement cannot be reached, we have no choice but to pursue legal action to protect our innovations,’ said Horacio Gutierrez, Microsoft’s deputy general counsel of Intellectual Property.

All of which begs the question – what has TomTom made that has Microsoft tech in? And how did Microsoft not notice TomTom makes in car navigation systems before? We’re off to rip a TomTom open and have a rummage around, but we’ll keep you posted on any new developments.
