Firefox Mobile, aka ‘Fennec‘ is still in development but the Mozilla Foundation has just revealed two interesting facts about the portable web browser. Firstly, it will just be called ‘Firefox’ from now on and secondly it will be able to sync with the full desktop version – even duplicating any tabs you have left open.

Firefox (the mobile version) is currently only working on selected HTC Windows Mobile handsets, but the busy beavers at Mozilla are said to be working on porting it to Symbian and Android OS too.Calling the browser simply ‘Firefox’ rather than ‘Firefox Mobile’ or Fennec seems to acknowledge that this will be a fully-fledged Mozilla browser rather than a cut-down version.

The Firefox developers have put some effort into making the Firefox on your phone sync with the one on your desk. The coolest-dsounding example of this makes it easy to see the same content on both devices simply by synchronising the open tabs.

“You’re looking for a new restaurant to try from your laptop at home, find one and head out,” says Mozilla’s Brad Lassey, ” Once you get to the neighborhood, you realize you have no idea where this hole in the wall place is. With tab syncing you can pull out your mobile device, launch [Firefox] and see a list of tabs open on your laptop. You select the tab you need, and instantly are looking at the same content you had on your laptop.”

Because Android uses Java apps, not native C++ apps, Fennec will not be coming to Android.
