Read that headline again. Bonkers, isn’t it? But that’s what Panasonic’s promising from its first ever washing machine: a clothes-cleaner that’ll recognise what you’ve got inside it, and spin it “in 3D.”
Honestly, Panasonic has gone 3D mad. If it’s not 3D Blu-Ray, it’s a 3D Washing Machine. According to Panasonic, its 3D Washing Machine has a special set of sensors to figure out exactly how much your washing weighs, and the force with which it falls from the top to the bottom of the drum. From that information, it can figure out how fast to spin it to make sure it gets a good dose of detergent on all sides.
In effect, it means your grubby clobber gets spun through 3D space, rather than just clinging to the side of the drum. We’re not sure that lives up to our expectations. If we’re honest, we had very futuristic visions when we first heard Panny mutter the words “3D Washing Machine”, but it is very eco friendly.
Because the 3D Washing Machine can sense exactly the right amount of speed to use, it doesn’t waste any energy. It also uses a tilted drum, so it uses less water. It’s Panasonic’s first ever washing machine, but the company promises it won’t be the last, as it makes a new push into white goods.
