UPDATE: Gmail appears to be fixed now, whew! Let us know if you’re still experiencing any problems.
Gmail, Google’s free webmail service, broke down for users worldwide this morning in one of the most spectacular Gfails in the company’s history.
Shortly after 10.15 this morning UK time, reports started coming in of Gmail going down – a rare occurrence for one of Google‘s most heavily used services. Isolated complaints snowballed and it soon became clear that we were witnessing a massive, global Gfail.
The cause of the Gmail breakdown is unknown – Google isn’t commenting whilst it fixes things – but Gmail emails are still getting through on some services, including desktop clients, iPhones and BlackBerries. The Gmail web service is still down in parts of the UK at least at the time of writing.
Was it the weight of the world’s email? Did you send one helluva large attachment last night? Let us kow what troubles you’ve experienced with Gmail in the comments below!
