Mini vMac might just be the least essential but at the same time most convincing argument for Jailbreaking the iPhone – a complete emulator of the classic Mac Plus that you can carry around in your pocket.

The Mini vMac emulator was originally an OS X app which has been ported to the iPhone by Named Fork. The Mini vMac app emulates the Mac Plus hardware, but you’ll need to provide your own OS. Obviously, you have the original discs, right? If so, you might just find suitably formatted copies floating around the web.

With Mini vMac installed and your Mac OS disk image installed, you will effectively have a proper Mac Plus at your disposal, ready to be loaded up with classic apps and games (which, again, you must own the originals of).

The Jailbreak requirement will put many potential users off, but sadly Apple has laid down the law by banning any emulators from being sold via the official app store. Mini vMac is completely free and open source and can be installed via Cydia.
