My Phone pre-registrations are now open for any Windows Mobile users who want to get in early on Microsoft’s new ‘cloud’ based sync service.

My Phone is a new service from Microsoft that aims to sync Windows Mobile handsets over the air to a data ‘cloud’. Contacts, SMS messages, even photos and video can be securely backed up to the web.

Microsoft’s Scott Rockfeld said of My Phone,“This new Microsoft cloud service syncs critical information (e.g., contacts, calendar appointments, tasks, text messages, photos, video, etc) on a user’s mobile phone to a password protected Web site. My Phone provides an easy to use Web portal where people can access and manage content on the phone, and share that information with others.”

My Phone can be set to perform regular silent backups of data from a WinMo 6.x handset, and that data can be easily accessed via the user’s PC. Functionality to access My Phone seamlessly is rumoured to be part of the still-beta Windows 7.
