Killzone 2 isn’t even on the shelves yet, but already we can hear the faint rumbling of Downloadable Content (DLC) coming down the pipe. Killzone 2 DLC? Yes please!
Killzone 2 doesn’t come out until next Friday (the 27th) in the UK but, as the hype-o-meter needle flicks into the red, it seems that Guerilla Games are so confident of the PS3 shooter’s fortunes that they are already planning some impressive DLC content to flesh out the multiplayer aspects of the game.
Rumours posted on Dutch PS3 fansite PS3hype.nl (Google translation) point to there being plans for quite a bit of Killzone 2 DLC – some of it free, some chargeable.
Once Killzone 2 is released, Guerilla will reportedly follow it up with several extra map packs for multiplayer, including both all-new content and a special ‘retro’ pack featuring environments from the first Killzone game. If they can pull it off, Killzone 2 DLC sounds like being a shoot-em-up fan’s dream download.
In addition there will be an in-game ‘shop’ where players can spend credit earned through multiplayer bouts on costumes, equipment and other niceties. As DLC goes, that’s a nice touch as it doesn’t involve spending real cash.
One thing that has been officially denied by Guerilla Games is the possibility of a Killzone 2 Co-op mode being added as an aftermarket downlaodable. Lack of co-operative gameplay is possibly the game’s biggest weak point and adding a networked or split-screen mode would have been a huge gain.
