Valve has announced that the latest Team Fortress 2 character update is landing next Tuesday. This time it’s the fast-talking, faster-moving Scout that’s getting an additional set of achievements and unlockables.

The first weapon upgrade has been revealed as the Sandman – a bat that can whack baseballs at the opposing team, stunning them (even while ÜberCharged) for a short period of time. Exactly how long depends on how far away you manage to clobber them from, giving you an opportunity to run up and introduce them to the blunt end of your billy club.

Valve is teasing out the other updates throughout the rest of the week, which is also expected to introduce a new mode; you can keep track of it all on the Team Fortress website. The Scout now joins the Pyro, Heavy and Medic in getting its class overhaul, leaving the Soldier, Demoman, Engineer, Sniper and Spy classes to get their inevitable upgrades at some later stage.

If you don’t fancy the idea of playing on servers completely full of Scouts, we’d recommend that you avoid playing on Tuesday and give it 24 hours for the novelty to wear off. The Scout update is set for Steam PC players only initially, but should make its way to the Xbox 360 version sooner or later. Now we’re just off to cancel our Left4Dead session.
