UPDATE: That was fast! The HTC Magic is now official. Vodafone just ripped the covers off it. Get all the HTC Magic details!
The HTC Magic is the phone formerly known as the G2 – the followup to the T-Mobile exclusive G1 Android phone. HTC has the new handset ready for launch, but in Europe, T-Mobile have lost out to Vodafone for the rights to distribute it.
The HTC Magic will come with a 3.2 megapixel camera (although no flash), and the usual wifi gubbins a la the G1. HTC have decided to drop the slider keyboard for the HTC Magic – the G1′s keyboard added a few extra ounces and a bit of chunkiness, after all.
The sleek new HTC Magic, on the other hand, comes with the Cupcake extensions to the Android OS. Cupcake has better support for ‘soft’ onscreen keyboards, which should address the input problems that made the keyboard a necessity the first time around.
Vodafone have snapped up the European rights to the HTC Magic – pipping T-Mobile, although as the G1 reportedly hasn’t been selling at quite the expected rate they may not have been bidding too hard.
