Windows Mobile 6.5, Microsoft’s worst kept secret since everything Steve Ballmer revealed at CES, has finally been confirmed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. All the details after the jump!
On stage at the Microsoft keynote, CEO Steve Ballmer officially announced Windows Mobile 6.5 for smartphones and fleshed out some of the new features for the operating system that’s got to go head to head against the iPhone, Android and Palm’s webOS.
The honeycomb app launcher is the Windows Mobile 6.5 answer to one touch program access. Elsewhere on the home screen, new emails, texts and calendar appointments pop up, while a new Internet Explorer Mobile brings phone browsing ever closer to the full frame experience.
Ballmer also named the HTC Touch Pro2 and HTC Touch Diamond2 as the first phones to pack the new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, while the likes of Acer, Garmin-Asus, Palm and HP are all getting in on the Windows Mobile 6.5 love in at a later date.
