The Pitt is the second piece of Fallout 3 Downloadable Content (DLC) due for release. The Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) has an exclusive breakdown of what wasteland survivors can expect from the new area.

The Pitt is what the wasteland dwellers call the former city of Pittsburgh and its environs. As presented here, it is a mass of wrecked industry, slaver compounds and squalor. OXM calls it a “stunning dystopia that’s unlike any other area in Fallout 3′s world” – which, if you know the Capitol Wastes, is saying something.

The Pitt consists of an abandoned steel yard, a large ‘dungeon’ area to explore and a divided human settlement. Downtown is the part of The Pitt reserved for Slaves, while the Slavers of The Pitt kick back in Haven.

For the first time you will be able to interact with Raiders as actual characters, rather than just bullet-sponge Mad Max extras. One of the major new quests will see you go undercover as a Slave in Downtown, searching for a mutation cure.

The Pitt will come with the usual complement of side quests and interesting encounters, as well as some new weapons and items such as the Auto-Axe – for when butchering Raiders with a regular Axe just seems like too much effort.
