Nokia looks set to launch an 8MP Nokia Nseries smartphone this week at Mobile World Congress – all the killer camera phone details after the jump!

If rumours are to be believed, an 8 megapixel camera could be inside a new Nseries phone about to be announced. How do we know? On the 2009 Nseries blog this weekend, a curious post popped up with some aspirational photography claimed to be taken at Barcelona, with a “Nokia device”.

Here’s the hint – the picture had a resolution of 3274 x 2448. Do the maths, and that means a Nokia phone with an 8MP sensor – or if it was scaled down, maybe even more!

There are few other details, although closer inspection of the photo’s data shows that the device has a Carl Zeiss lens.

About time, is all we can say. Nokia’s been lagging behind the other big phone makers in the megapixel stakes, but this looks like it should put it back in the race. Stay tuned for more shortly.

Are you sure? So far Nokia have only announced two boring business phones, and two more boring mid-range phones. Not even a sniff of anything high-end.

Very disappointing from the Finnish giant so far. Let’s hope there’s more to come, as Samsung, LG et al are running all over ‘em.
