They’re cringeworthy, they’re cute, but one thing you can’t accuse these tech-fanciers of being is shy and bashful. If you’re thinking of popping the question tomorrow, or simply wooing the geek in your life, take some inspiration from these guys.

5) Nokia says it with MMS

OK, this isn’t a real marriage proposal, but it dates back to the very first MMS-capable Nokia phone, the 7650, and might give you some inspiration if you’re planning to whip your ring out tomorrow. Just snap some “hilarious” and kooky photos delivering your proposal, and then fling them to your loved one and hope she’s sat alone, in a lonely apartment, and not in the pub showing her mates your latest ridiculous escapades.

4) iPhone, iDo.
We suspect more people have popped the question in an Apple-themed way than care to admit it. Mac fans are just that obsessive. But how about creating your own iPhone ad to do the job for you? That’s what Claude M did back in 2007, proposing to his girlfriend through the iPhone’s coverflow, web and call features. Check out his heart-warming video below.

3) Halo, will you marry me?
OK, so gun-toting first person shooters aren’t the most romantic games around, but maybe you’re looking at it all wrong. Xbox Live gamer Moviesign used Halo 3’s Forge tool to create a special map to propose to his missus on November 3 2007. He tricked her into playing an online game, and then led her to an area where he’d painstakingly spelled out his proposal in, of all things, weapons.

2) I now pronounce Zune husband and wife.
Using an iPhone to propose is so passé. Gizmodo reader Ben Podbielski used an altogether rarer bit of kit to drop his matrimonial bomb. He loaded a pink Zune Classic with a slushy video which ended with directions to turn the MP3 player over. When his would-be bride Sarah did just that, she saw he’d had “Will you marry me?” engraved on its back.

1) Will you marry me, LIVE!
For the ultimate in high-tech proposals, you have to head online. That’s exactly what Ken Camp did when his proposal to Sheryl Breuker was broadcast live online through Qik! He described their relationship as “hyper-connected” and since they met online, it makes sense they get engaged online too. The whole head-spinning tech romance happened at the VON.x Conference in California, and while Ken said he originally considered proposing by text message, since he eventually used QIK, we can now relive the moment below!

  • Ken Camp II

With regard to marriage proposal #1, what you didn’t know if the backstory. Ken Camp, my father, used his high tech gadgets to cheat on my mother with Sheryl Breuker, who was also married at the time. Then, with the divorce not even final, he decided to pop the question to Sheryl at VON.x on Qik video. They even set a date before the divorce as final. So before you go lauding Ken’s efforts to get married, it helps if you know what a scumbag he really is.
