The Samsung Blue Eath is a new eco-friendly handset from Samsung aimed at those who not only want to reduce their carbon footprint, but to constantly monitor how big it is.

The Samsung Blue Earth is made from PCM – a form of recycled plastic made from discarded water bottles. The back of the handset is fitted with a solar panel that can provide enough charge to make an average call providing the Sun is out.

We assume that the phone’s battery can be topped up this way too – so leaving the Samsung Blue Earth on the dashboard of your car might just about offset some of the eco damage caused by driving the thing in the first place.

To further improve your green credentials, the Samsung Blue Earth boasts an ‘eco’ mode that reduces screen brightness, turns off Bluetooth and dims the backlight. Also included is a pedometer app that tells you how much of the planet’s precious resources you have saved by walking to work.

The Samsung Blue Earth is still to receive an official price, but should be with us towards the end of the year. No word on the operating system, either – but that big clock looks a bit Androidesque to us. What do you think?
