Prey – the gravity defying first-person shooter that first appeared on the PC to mild acclaim back in 2006 – is coming to the iPhone, bringing its unique mix of ultraviolent alien fragging and mind-bending level design to the App Store

Prey puts you in the trousers of a Cherokee garage mechanic and former soldier (handy!) who is abducted by a strange spacecraft and must fight to survive against alien beasties in the kind of environment that would make M.C. Escher turn to drink.

The iPhone version of Prey uses on screen virtual controls to move you around the 3D space. If the control layout is a bit fiddly for you you are free to move them around in the game’s settings to get the exact layout that works for you – a brilliant idea on a machine like the iPhone.

Developers MachineWorks have really outdone themselves in transferring Prey’s unique look and ‘portal’ technology on to the iPhone and providing the controls are as responsive as claimed they could have a winner on their hands.

Any idea how much the app costs and if there is a free demo?
