ServersMan is a terribly-named iPhone app from Japan that can take your little Apple smartphone and turn it into a fully-working web server.

ServersMan is only available in the Japanese App Store at the moment, but ReadWriteWeb took a look at it ahead of its Western release later this year.

A product of Japanese development studio FreeBit, ServersMan runs a full HTTP and webDAV server right on your phone, allowing the sharing and uploading of files as well as the publishing of public HTML pages.

Sadly, you can’t do OTA music uploads using this method as yet, but for transporting files it is a neat solution and there is something undeniably cool about carrying your own webserver around in your coat pocket… OK maybe ‘cool’ is a bit strong.

The ServersMan name is said to be a tribute to the Sony Walkman. Putting a server in your pocket, hence ‘ServersMan’ – although surely ‘Walkserver’ would be more correct? Whatever – we expect the name will be one of the first things to change when the ServersMan arrives here in March.
