Palm has just announced it will be pulling the plug on its PalmOS operating system, and will focus on webOS for the Palm Pre instead.
Palm CEO Ed Colligan reportedly told investors yesterday that Palm won’t be releasing any more PalmOS devices or updates after the entirely unnecessary Palm Centro later this year.
Instead, Palm will simply focus on webOS, the new and altogether swish OS for the Palm Pre, and the much less exciting Windows Mobile Palm smartphones.
Farewell PalmOS, it served us well. But as they say in the mobile world, if you can’t set up a profitable app store off the back of it, what’s the point?
