Coronation Street DS game announced!

Coronation Street is set to make the move from the small screen to, er, the even smaller screen. Mindscape are to release a Nintendo DS game based upon the long running soap opera.

Coronation Street (that’s the only title info we have, although we are hoping for something snappy like ‘Coronation Street: Hotpot Hi-Jinx’) is to be “an adventure and task-based concept set within the theme of the famous fictional street”, according to MindScape.

We have no clear idea of what this means, although it probably rules out our favoured proposal of Coronation Street: Source – a team based shooter pitting the staff of Underworld against the regulars at the Rover’s Return in a no-holds-barred rocket battle.

Given the description, we anticipate something like an Animal Crossing derivative where you have to perform various tasks for Corrie characters so you can fit into your new Coronation Street home – like recapturing Jack Duckworth’s pigeons, collecting ingredients for Betty’s hotpot or locating Kirk’s missing brain.

Mindscape is responsible for the DS versions of Golden Balls and Ready Steady Cook, so we aren’t getting too excited, but Coronation Street’s rich backstory could produce a game with some real charm.
