BAFTA – that’s the British Academy of Film and Television Arts to you, mate – has released the ten nominations for the BAFTA 2008 Game of the Year Award and is calling on the gaming public to choose a winner.

BAFTA has been giving out awards for the games industry since 1998, although there has only been a seperate Video Games BAFTA ceremony since 2003. Still, the awards are pretty well established now and BAFTA announced in 2006 that it would “give video games equal status with film and television” which the wholly seperate awards ceremony does. Kind of.

There is a broad range of titles up this year representing both hardcore gaming experiences and the more casual demographic. One nomination – Wii Fit – is arguably not an actual game as such but.. well, let’s let it go.

That BAFTA GotY list in full

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare
  • Fallout 3
  • Gears of War 2
  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • Guitar Hero World Tour
  • Left 4 Dead
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Professor Layton and the Curious Village
  • Wii Fit
  • World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

If you feel strongly enough you can cast your vote by heading over to the BAFTA Game Awards site. This year’s award is sponsored by high street retailers Game.
