The devil makes work for idle hands, especially if you’re a a teenager: according to a new survey, UK teens spend 87 hours a year looking at porn. Yes, 87 hours. Can we blame this on the snow?

The survey, carried out by onepoll.com for parental lock software CyberSentinel found that UK teens spend at least one hour and 40 minutes a week looking at porn – that’s just under 87 hours a year. Or to put it another way, three and a half days of non-stop onanism, or 5,220 minutes of continuous solo copulation. You get the drift.

Teens also spend a further three and a half hours a week chatting on MSN, and just over three hours on homework, though the survey, which questioned 1,000 teens aged 13-16, doesn’t say if this is simultaneous with the blue browsing. We hope not, for the keyboard’s sake.

Of course, it’s worth pointing out that this type of survey is hardly representative. For one thing, online surveys require people to join the panel base in the first place, and the more serial “offenders” are surely less likely to sign up for something like that.

Mind you, we’ve a sneeking suspicion 87 hours understates the reality. Give us your own mucky thoughts in the comments section below.

Why blame the children, when the first scene of almost every modern Film begins with a bedroom sex romp?

So long as you pay and subscribe to the Adult channels it’s perfectly ok then to view Porn is it?

The Television has become the worst element there is for promoting both violence and excessive sexual behaviour. So stop blaming the children and have a go at the Establishment that allows such proliferation of trash sent into our front rooms 24/7.

So long as there is money in it’s ok and that’s the bottom line, as far as UK Gov are concerned,

What’s even more alarming is the fact that most parents have no idea what is going on. As a writer for a non profit anti pornography blog ( block-porn.org )I am constantly hearing from frustrated parents that just discovered how much time their teens are spending on porn sites, and don’t know what to do about it.
While nothing will replace good old fahion parenting (as in monitoring computer use, laying down and enforcing ground rules, and keeping the lines of communication open) there are some measures that adults can take to help them keep an eye out for teenagers surfing for pornography. There are some very effective, and affordable, internet filters available today that will actually send parents a report of exactly which websites have been visited from the home computer

As my last comment was deleted, i feel that my viewpoint has not reached its target audience.

Scientifically, our hormones are inbalanced to the point where we cannot control our bodies!
Porn is a way of releasing ourselves.

Would you rather us take it out through constant in-class masturbation? or perhaps rape?

    Thank you,
    Future Porn-star SS.

  6. Let's get real says:

Veronica, you are just trying to software. “Software filters” are not going to make one iota of difference in the fight against porn; either on an individual or a wider cultural level.

Porn filters have been around since the Internet first developed; they have never impeded the porn industry from growing. Hoping to stem porn use in your household by using “filters” is an ineffective strategy.

The only effective strategy against limiting minor and broader population addiction to porn – and the porn biz knows this – is a whole new Governmental approach to porn. I.e. where the Government ensures the standard Internet connection does not come with porn-on-tap as standard.

“Scientifically, our hormones are inbalanced to the point where we cannot control our bodies!
Porn is a way of releasing ourselves.”

And how is it that humans evolved for millions of years without 24/7 porn just fine, future harlot?

Ubiquitous porn is not a prerequisite to human life, or the human hormonal system. It is nothing but idiocy to suggest that it is.

Porn is in actual fact counter-evolutionary as it takes sex hormones designed for actual interaction and relationships and redirects them into nothing.
