Reports are circulating that Nokia will launch its own Symbian App Store at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, putting N-Series smartphones head to head with the iPhone, BlackBerry Storm and Android handsets, not to mention the Palm Pre.

According to reports, Nokia will join Apple, Palm, RIM and Android in hawking apps for its N-Series smartphones over the air.

Mobile Review editor Eldar Murtazin reckons Nokia already has its App Store ready for roll out, and has been testing it for a while.

It would mean owners can get hold of apps through a central service, and side-step the slightly awkward installation process through desktop software, or having to Bluetooth files directly to the phone.

All that’s needed now is for Nokia to unveil the store at next week’s Mobile World Congress. It’ll be interesting to see what the Finnish phone maker has in store. Will it be any different to the iPhone App Store, BlackBerry App Centre, or the Android Marketplace? We’ll keep you posted right here.
