UPDATE: We’ve got our hands on every official picture of the Kindle 2. Check out all the official photos!

The Kindle 2 e-reader has just been confirmed by Amazon – get all the gory details after the jump!

The Kindle 2 has just been unveiled at a press conference in New York, and it’s not disappointed. It is the device we’ve seen floating around the internet this week, with QWERTY keypad and 3G net connectivity, but it’s been specced, and it’s stunning.

For one, the Kindle 2 clocks in at just 0.36 inches thick – that’s thinner than an iPhone. Not only that, but it stores your documents in the cloud so you can switch devices and keep on reading.

A 5-way controller lets you skip around everything from novels to newspapers easily and quickly, while battery life has been improved 25% on the first Kindle and storage increased 7 fold – Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos claims that’s 1,500 books.

It’ll also download newspapers and magazines, so we’re calling this one right now as the saviour of print media. It’s up for pre-order at Amazon.com now for release later in the month, but unfortunately there’s no sign yet of a UK release. We’re not ruling it out by any means though, so stay tuned for more details as they arrive.

Out February 24 | $349 | Amazon
