Exclusive: Amazon has just confirmed the Kindle 2 will be getting an international release. There’s no price or date just yet, but read what it had to say after the jump!
As we predicted earlier today, it looks like the Kindle 2 e-reader will be getting a UK and worldwide release. We asked an Amazon spokesperson if we would be seeing a global roll out, and he had this to say:
“Yes, we plan to offer the Kindle internationally. We know that Kindle is something our international customers want and we look forwarding to serving them but we haven’t announced a timeline yet and we are not doing so today.”
The delay is no doubt in part due to the 3G connectivity – unlike the Sony Reader deals will have to be struck locally with network providers to allow speedy downloads of books and newspapers. Still, that’s a positive that it’s heading our way. We’ll be keeping tabs on its progress across the Atlantic, rest assured, but while you wait, be sure to check out the Kindle 2 gallery right here.

It actually happened! Kindle went international
I’ve put together a table that lists every country in which Kindle is available along with number of books, their pricing, wireless availability etc at http://blogkindle.com/2009/10/international-release-of-kindle-2/
Wowser! That’s quite a list. Definitely worth looking at if you’re considering a Kindle. Thanks for the tip!
Phwoar! We’re looking in to the ins and outs of the UK release too so stay tuned.
The Kindle 2 International version is available for $279 on Amazon website.
Update: Amazon’s Kindle 2 gets a new $20 price cut, now you can buy it for $259.
How much it cost me in Euro? Does anybody knows?
I would love to buy it for my partner.
Thanks
