UPDATE: We’ve told Microsoft that the Xbox 360 update appears to be doing more damage than good, so find out Microsoft’s response if you’ve been affected and let us know if support is helping.
he Xbox 360 update that rolled out on Tuesday appears to have been causing more problems than it intended to fix, including the dreaded red ring of death (RROD). Want to know what symptoms to watch out for on your Xbox 360? Find out after the jump.
Users on the Xbox forum have been complaining about a host of bugs that have mysteriously cropped up since the update, including Netflix failing to work, video crashing and even worse – the RROD.
As one user wrote: “I tried removing the power supply cable and the hard drive first thing and neither helped. It’s Red-Ringed for sure. ”
Dozens of others on the thread have complained of the same thing happening shortly after the update, which was meant to correct the error causing a lack of sound for Xbox gamers hooking their console up to the TV via HDMI. Coincidence, or something more sinister?
Looks like it’s out of the frying pan and into the fire for Xboxers then, so if yours is out of warranty, brace yourself – the update is mandatory.
