Capcom has revealed that it will creating new Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV content for Sony’s PlayStation Home service on PS3. Famitsu has a wad of screenshots showing exclusive Street Fighter VI costumes and Home furniture as well as a Resident Evil 5 themed section for players to visit, modelled on the game’s opening level, though the hordes of flesh eating nasties will be replaced with Diesel-wearing Home users . We’re assuming you can’t headshot them either.
Capcom is following Ubisoft and Namco Bandai in its Home support, although other game makers like EA are planning content releases. Judging from the screens, it looks like there’ll be Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil costumes available, as well as Street Fighter IV figurines to kit out your personal Home space with.
At the moment, the new content is only planned for the Japanese version of Home. However, porting it to other regions shouldn’t be too much of a leap, and given the popularity of both series outside Japan, it would certainly make sense to bring the goodies over to Home in Europe and North America.
Since Home’s long-awaited release, the hype around it seems to have evaporated. This probably down to the fact that it’s early days were not the most enthralling experience – but, as we are so often reminded, it’s still beta and Home has still got a long way to go. With companies like Capcom making interesting new content, we could yet see the service blossom.
