Take a squizz at the two six different versions of Windows 7 that Microsoft has announced and you’ll notice that there’s no place for the rumoured netbook version. Because, according to Microsoft, Windows 7 is so good IT DOESN’T NEED ONE.
That’s right, unlike the heavy, bloated mess that is Vista, Windows 7 is a nimble little thing that can run just as well on lowly netbook hardware as it can on a multi-core toting monster running at 1.21 gigawatts. Most non-Linux netbooks run XP, which is getting a little bit old now.
According to Brad Brooks (ace name), Microsoft’s corporate vice president for Windows Consumer Product Marketing, any version of Windows 7 will run fine on netbooks.
“With Windows 7, we’ve matched hardware improvements with some investments of our own,” Brooks said.
“We are on track to have a smaller OS footprint; an improved user interface that should allow for faster boot-up and shut-down times [and] improved power management for enhanced battery life.”
