Dead Space has been confirmed for Nintendo Wii as EA pledges greater commitment to the platform. During the publisher’s earnings call yesterday afternoon, EA CEO John Riccitiello promised a Wii version of the space shooter which would have a similar feel to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions.
Dead Space drew a lot of comparisons to Resident Evil 4, due to the close similarities in the control style and action-horror leanings. Resident Evil 4 also made a successful transition to motion sensing controls, so there’s good chance that Dead Space could repeat that success, and would also bring more much-needed adult-centric content to the console.
EA is ramping up its Wii focus over the coming year; the company’s goal, Riccitiello said, is to produce games that rival Nintendo’s own in quality. “Nintendo is the leader; they’re getting half our emphasis in terms of title counts,” he said. “This year’s [Wii] title slate is a significant improvement from last year.”
There’s no indication of when Dead Space Wii will be launching, but it hopefully won’t be too far off. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if EA also opted to port some of its other recent titles, like Mirror’s Edge across to the platform in future.
