T-Mobile G1 gets OTA update – but no Cupcake for you

View Comments

T-Mobile is rolling out an Over-The-Air update to the G1 Android phone, but the hoped-for ‘Cupcake’ extensions will not be included.

T-Mobile have been circulating memos about an update to the G1’s Android operating system. RC33 will be made available to subscribers via the G1’s OTA facility between February 5th – 15th in the UK.

The update will reportedly enable the Google Voice Search as seen on the iPhone, and fix some bugs relating to image saving and system update checks.

Sadly, the update doesn’t include the Cupcake extensions we wrote about back in December. So, no onscreen ’soft’ keyboard or other interface enhancements unless you are willing to ‘root’ your phone and install it manually. Bah.
