Philips’ 56 inch stunner is the world’s first commercially available TV in the same 21:9 ratio used in cinemas – hence the Cinema 21:9 name.
It may sound like a bit of a gimmick – and the jury is still out on whether you’ll want to use this for watching Eastenders or the footie – but if you’re a home cinema fan this is something you’ll seriously want to consider.
That extra screen acreage really pays dividends in terms of immersive viewing – and the one we saw was in a room full of sweaty journalists.
You can see the Cinema 21:9 specs in our hands-on, although Philips is still holding back on a few juicy tidbits, including whether there’ll be LED backlighting or picture in picture display, which could be perfect for a screen this wide with internet connectivity.
