Android users tired of the built-in browser have had an alternative the form of Opera Mini since shortly after the OS was launched. Opera has now released Opera Mini 4.2, which adds a plethora of new features and bug fixes to what is already a very capable app.
The big changes in version 4.2 are the ability to save pages to a microSD card for offline browsing, support for passing video links to the system video player (a ‘hidden’ app that can only be called by other processes) and page zoom in/out via double-tapping.
Bug fixes include properly hiding password characters, faster trackball response times and an annoying bug that stopped the app exiting correctly after the back button was pressed.
Users can now input text directly into forms and the URL box without having to pop up the system text-entry dialog, and internal pages (e.g. the start page) have had their fonts adjusted for easier navigation.
