Look! It’s the new OLPC dual touchscreen in the wild! OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) promised this dual touchscreen tablet version of the lil laptop some time ago, but this is the first evidence we’ve seen of it in the works. Don’t get too excited though – this is an obvious fake. Find out why after the jump.
Don’t get us wrong, we love the concept of a new OLPC – we just doubt it’ll ever be achieved for such a low cost – as indicated by this Blurrycam shot of what’s sadly a mockup.
There are no details about where the photo, sent to the guys at Engadget, was taken, but no matter what country you live in, backlit laptop screens don’t carry shadows like the one cast by the holder’s finger. And they certainly don’t cast shadows around their edges, as the right hand fold seems to. No, this is a glued on bit of paper, if ever we saw one.
So, it’s a false alarm, but it remains an interesting concept. It looks like we’ll all be waiting a good long while before a real dual touchscreen OLPC shows up. As will all those children. Think of the children, OLPC, the children.
