Face it: your plain old 13 or 15 inch laptop with a Core 2 Duo chip and integrated graphics is ten a penny. If you’re looking to outdo all the MacBook brats in Starbucks, you need something much more outlandish.
Luckily, we’ve got just the thing… Feast your peepers on the five craziest laptop designs in the world: from three way folds to twin machines, we’ve got them all here. See them after the jump!
Asus AIRO
The more we think about it, the more we start to realise that Asus’s crazy, folding “origami” AIRO laptop was the highlight of CES this year. There might not be any firm specs yet, but it’s near production and could revolutionise both the size of the laptop in our bag, as well as how we use it, thanks to its ergonomic three way folding action.
Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds
Admittedly, the Lenovo does look like a chunky laptop from an earlier decade, but the extra bulk serves a purpose: check out the slide out screen to run and watch multiple apps simultaneously. Cynics might suggest that it’d be easier to buy a laptop with a bigger screen, but that’s not as fun is it? There’s also a digitiser (otherwise known as a graphics tablet) and stylus built in for arty farty types.
Asus M50
The Asus M50 is still very much MIA when it comes to a release schedule, but at the very least, it’s a fantastic concept, and one we’ve seen working 100 percent, unlike the AIRO. Asus has shunned the idea of a second laptop screen, and gone and put in a second, low power computer where the trackpad is. Both share the same battery, but because the second is so small, you get almost instant start up for apps like email, browsing and video playback for up to 12 hours. How’s that for a party trick?
PS3 Laptop
Sadly, this one definitely won’t see the light of day anytime soon. You may be familiar with console modder Ben Heck – here’s his finest creation, the PS3 laptop. It’s a 60GB model with a 17 inch 720p screen, HDMI sockets and working USB ports. It does weigh a full 16 pounds, but this looks like the ultimate gaming laptop to us. You’ll also get some work done, since the PS3 can boot into Linux too.
Haier Flybook
Tablet netbooks are all the rage these days, but Haier’s seriously out there Flybook beats them all by a good year and a half. It’s an 8.6 inch screen netbook that folds down to a tablet and flips up to look like a desktop for those who prefer not to hunch when they’re hotdesking. It even has 3G. This one’s kinda spooky as it has just about everything the Sony VAIO P has, except 18 months ago – shame about the $4,000+ pricetag.
