Last week we reported on Vodafone’s trialling of 16Mbps mobile broadband, aka HSPA+ – and figured that it would probably be a good few months (or even longer) until the tech was locked and ready to rock. Well, it seems it could be a lot closer than we first thought.
The latest news is that USB dongle maker Huawei is all set to showcase the world’s first commercial HSPA+ modem in mid-February. This is when the mobile communications world gathers in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress, you see.
Huawei and Vodafone have been working together on HSPA+, so it’s not too much of a shot in the dark to surmise that the two could be plotting to roll out a supercharged, HSDPA-vanquishing 16Mbps service in the coming months. We’ll keep you posted on further developments from Barcelona.
