Barack Obama will be the first US president to own a BlackBerry, albeit with a few caveats. The self-confessed mobile e-mail addict has been told he can keep his handset for personal e-mails, but will need to use a much more awkward Sectera Edge for all official presidential business.
We’d previously heard Obama was an iPhone fan, but it seems he’ll be going with RIM for his personal handet.
It’s not known which model of BlackBerry Obama will pick. He’s bound to deserve an upgrade since becoming the most powerful man in the world, but in the meantime he’ll be getting to grips with the Sectera Edge – a phone approved by the NSA for White House use.
It’s a bulky looking handset, complete with a second display and built in encryption to scramble voice calls.
It’s ruggedised too, with drop, shock, vibration, water, temperature, dust and humidity protection.
All of that doesn’t stop it being an ugly sucker though. Take a peek at it to the right.
