Remember how we warned you that fake and potentially lethal DS consoles were winging their way to the UK? Well, it looks like some of them slipped through Customs and showed up on eBay. However, a raid led by Bromley Trading Standards Department and Kent police resulted in the seizure of 40 counterfeit consoles, along with 150 dodgy games. This raid is the first of its kind ever to take place in the UK.
In addition to snagging knock-off consoles and games, a husband and wife team are also being investigated for their role in the selling of the devices. A test purchase made on eBay in the past few weeks led investigators to the couple’s home.
Invoices also revealed that the pair had been trading online over a two-year period, using multiple identities.
“The replication of video games software and hardware is illegal and has a negative impact on both local and national businesses,” explained Michael Rawlinson, managing director of ELSPA.
