If you haven’t tried Boxee yet, you’re really missing out. That said, it’s not terribly easy to get involved with the 3rd party media centre: you either need to hack an Apple TV to install it, or wire up a PC or Mac to your TV. Now, however, the Boxee team are considering branching out with their own set top box.

While exhibiting at CES, Boxee says it was approached by several potential partners about creating a set-top box. It’s so intrigued by the prospect it’s questioning users. If you’re using Boxee already, make sure you fill in their quick questionnaire.

In the meantime, the team’s making it clear that getting Boxee embedded in new hardware would take a while. For our part, we’d love to see it happen.

We’ve already been told PVR functions and TV tuner compatibility is on the way, and with BBC iPlayer support now included, it could be a fantastic device.
