Time-obsessed holiday and leisure discount site Lastminute.com has put together its first Android app – nru – and it looks like a corker.

nru (near you, geddit?) uses both the GPS and compass built in to the G1 to create a sort of ‘radar’ display that indicates points of interest near you. You can select landmarks, restaurants, clubs, etc. and your phone will point out any that are nearby.

Holding the phone parallel to the ground gives  a top down ‘radar’ look (see picture)  and you can hold the phone like a ‘lens’ to highlight anything directly in front of you.

Other than a real-time augmented reality overlay on the G1′s camera about the only thing that would make this beter is if they had it play the Star Trek Tricorder noise while you ‘scan’ your environs.
