Palm is planning to do away with such 20th-century notions as desktop/mobile synching by letting the Palm Pre use the ‘cloud’ (i.e. the internet) to hold backups of contacts and data. Companion Link have other ideas.

Companion Link is planning to release software that will synchronise your Palm Pre with a plethora of desktop apps including ACT!, Palm Desktop (!), Lotus Notes, GoldMine, and Microsoft Outlook.

The software should sync contacts and all the usual PIM data like task lists, reminders, calender data and notes as supported by the target application.

No pricing has been announced, but Companion Link sells similar products for different mobile devices that come in at around £50 each.
