Video streaming site Ustream has been racing to get its iPhone and iPod Touch client approved by Apple so that it can grab some residual publicity by streaming the inauguration of President Obama. With literally hours to spare, Apple gave the app the nod. Mission accomplished!

Unlike the YouTube and Vimeo viewers, Ustream can display live programs streams. If you register with the site, the viewer can display a chatroom next to the live feed and let you discuss what you are watching with other viewers.

You need a wifi connection to watch at the moment to ‘ensure the highest quality’ but the press release councils that we stay tuned for further developments, so we assume they are going to make it work via 3G at some point.
