It’s shaping up to be a day of dubious releases, with whispers of an unlocked iPhone 3G going on sale in the UK, the Nokia N97 flashing up for pre-order online and word Apple will soon bump up the MacBook Air to 15 inches.

Will the iPhone ever be sold unlocked in the UK? If Pixmania are to believed, yes. The online store briefly offered the iPhone 3G SIM-free for £499 this morning, before yanking it back down again.

Is it a sign of things to come? It’s a strange phone for Pixmania to offer at all, since Apple only allows it to be sold through Carphone Warehouse, O2 and it’s own stores. Stay tuned for more as we hear it.

In the meantime, take a look at the Nokia N97. The Big N’s new flagship phone is rumoured to be landing in the UK early, going on sale March 31st.

That’s according to Play.com, and it’s a lot more precise than Nokia’s previous dating of “early 2009.”

According to the store, it’ll cost £479.99 SIM-free, packing in a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and an ample 32GB of onboard storage (expandable via SD card).

Lastly, there’s talk of Apple upgrading its MacBook Air laptop with a whopping 15 inch screen. We’re still dubious, but if Apple wants to increase its screen space it’ll also need to shed weight elsewhere. Carbon fibre MacBook Air, anyone?
