Weirdest gadgets of CES

Think CES last week was all about the flattest flat screens and the most realistic 3D? Stuff and nonsense. What we really went looking for were the weird and wonderful gadgets on show.

And we weren’t disappointed! We tracked down some seriously bonkers inventions, from toys and MP3 players to funny-shaped PCs, the like of which we’d never seen before.

Check out the weirdest gadgets of CES all under one ridiculous roof, after the jump.

Microsoft Fugoo Live
No, not the poisonous Japanese delicacy, but brightly coloured domestic appliances from coffee filters to alarm clocks, that communicate with each other wirelessly. You can drag and drop pics from your PC to the photoframe, or have the brewer make a cuppa for when your alarm goes off in the morning. The collection of kit is an interesting pointer for the future, but a little bit limited at the moment, we suspect.

Asus Eee Keyboard
Asus caused quite a stir with its 2009 line up, including this keyboard with a computer built in. It’s a great concept at the very least, connecting wirelessly to almost any screen you care to mention, with a touchscreen where the number pad would normally be to move your media around. Almost as odd though is Asus’s decision to include Windows XP Home on it rather than Media Centre Edition. Go figure.

Mindflex
Mattel’s mind control levitation obstacle course could well be the toy of next Christmas, so be sure to bag yours early if it comes out this year. Hook pads up to your head, and use your brainwaves and a fan to steer the ball around the course. This could be so addictive that it’ll cause migraines.

Smelling MP4
Korean company SEJU specialises in making breath detectors for keyrings. At CES though, tucked away in a tiny corner of the Las Vegas Hilton, we found SEJU has gone and stuffed one inside an MP4 player, with comical images warning you not to make that move. We’d love to have been in the room when they came up with this.

WowWee Cinemin
We weren’t expecting WowWee to make the jump for brill robots to iPod docks, and usually, that’d be a disastrous move, but its come up with a genuine innovation in the all too stale dock market. Pop your pod in and Cinemin will project movies from it onto the wall for up to three hours on a charge. The Station has speakers and an SD card slot, while the Swivel will rotate to fire flicks onto the ceiling, and the Stick is ultra portable.
