It’s about that time again – the time when we like to squeeze the morning’s biggest tech stories into a bite-sized chunk for your eyes to devour while your mouth devours a bowl of soup/BLT/Meatball Marinara (delete as applicable). Yep, it’s the lunchtime lowdown!
This morning we’ve got mucho rumours for you to ruminate over. First up we’ve heard that live Freeview telly could soon be wending its way to a slew of netbooks, courtesy of a dinky new chip from Telegent Systems. So while no manufacturer has confirmed that it’ll be sticking digital TV inside its small, cheap laptops, it’s pretty much a given that they’ll start soon.
We’d been expecting Sony Ericsson to unleash a gamer-friendly PSP phone at some point soon, but apparently that won’t be the case – Sony has apparently put the kibosh on the idea, saying that its PlayStation branding will only be used on a mobile phone when the tech deserves it. Given the state of mobile phone gaming compared to the current handheld market, we’d say that could be a long time away…
Lastly, US gaming rag Game Informer has published a rumour stating that a new Grand Theft Auto game will be out by the end of 2009. Yes, that’s right – we’re talking a full-on new game, not downloadable content, set in a new city but probably using the same engine as GTA IV. We’ll take that one with a truckload of sodium – but we’d sincerely love it to be true.
