Everyone’s favourite shoot-em-up is about to get a new lease of life as ID Software fires up a new version of Quake that’ll run in a browser and let you frag opponents on any PC… even the one at work.

Dubbed Quake Live, it’s still in beta testing and is invite only at the moment, but initial reports from those lucky enough to get an invitation is it’s near flawless. Even better, it’s free.

Instead of charging for online gaming, ID is working with IGA Worldwide to build advertising and sponsorships into Quake Live.

As soon as it goes public so we can all have a play, we’ll let you know. For now, enjoy the trailer below, and keep reminding yourself: this is all played within a web browser.
