Nokia is launching a special edition of the N79, dubbed the N79 Active and bundled with the wireless Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt from Polar, letting the phone track your exercise routines and finely tune them.
The phone comes with a new version of Nokia’s Sports Tracker software, letting owners record their running, walking, cycling and skiing activities.
Once you’ve completed a workout, Sports Tracker can share the route, tracked using the N79’s built-in GPS, and even share the songs you listened to while working out. Everything is uploaded to the web direct from the phone, and if you stop to take photos with the phone’s 5 megapixel camera while out running, Sports Tracker will geotag them and attach them to the route too.
The Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt lets the phone monitor your pulse, while the GPS keeps track of your pace and progress up or down hill. The N79 Active also includes a 4GB microSD memory card, and has an FM transmitter built-in, so it can send tunes to a car stereo when you’re not out running.
It’s essentially the same tech that’s included with Adidas / Samsung’s MiCoach phone, but with added bells, whistles and GPS.
