Archos just left its PMP-only days behind it, announcing its first netbook, dubbed the Archos 10. It’s a slick little laptop, but there’s a dirty secret hiding inside.

See, unlike the Archos PMPs, this isn’t a 100% original product. Instead, Archos has re-badged a Hasee laptop instead. That’s not to say it’s not a decent machine, but we’ve come to expect more from the French firm.

Inside there’s an Intel Atom processor, 1GB of memory and 160GB of hard drive space. There’re also three USB sockets, an ethernet port and a 10 inch LED backlit screen.

There’s no word on whether Archos will offer special media playback software, or anything else to differentiate this from the reams of other netbooks doing the rounds, and we’re still waiting for a price and launch date too.

Neat? Yes, but it’s hardly exciting. We’d expect a TV tuner inside, or at least 3G connectivity like the latest Archos 7 PMP. Come on Archos, try a bit harder!

I think there’s a lot to be said for making netbooks with way lower specs – something that’ll just handle internet browsing and video rendering, and priced accordingly, but that’s not entirely pants like the imovio. But then, that would involve companies actually making them, rather than rebadging Acer Aspires, MSI Winds and whatever the hell Hasee is. See, there’s so many now I forget the names.
