Future Apple gadgets could pack super-slim OLED screens, as Apple shows an interest in LG’s next-gen displays. The Mac maker just signed a huge deal with LG to provide its LCD screens, but according to rumours, it’s also eying up OLED.
LG already provides over 70% of Apple’s laptop and Cinema Display LCD panels, and that’s all the new five year deal covers, but according to Softpedia, Apple has also shown an interest in LG’s OLED screens.
They could head to notebooks, Cinema Displays, iPhones and iPods, as well as next-gen products, like the much-rumoured Mac Tablet.
Under the new deal, Apple will pay a $500 million deposit and LG will begin work on new LCD displays. However, it’s hard to imagine Cupertino ignoring its new OLED screens, boasting better display rates, colour reproduction, energy efficiency and thinner sizes than their LCD counterparts.
We’ve already heard LG has large multi-touch capable LCD screens in production, and is waiting for an order from Apple, but maybe the next generation of products from Jobs and Co will skip them altogether in favour of OLED.
Keep it here for more as soon as we hear it.
