The Safari web browser used on the iPhone and iPod touch is the number one mobile app for browsing the web in the US, says a report by online advertising trackers AdMob.
Safari commands 48% of the mobile web ‘market’, says the report, beating out rival browsers on the Blackberry (19%) and Windows Mobile (15%) platforms. The remaining 18% of devices a mix of third party browsers and built-in browsers on (e.g. Symbian) phones.
Worldwide – one would assume in countries where 3G is more prevalent – Safari holds 32 % of smartphone browsing and 10.8% of the overall mobile web.
Symbian phones are far in the lead of the iPhone globally, with over 41% of the total browser share. SYmbian is reportedly very strong in Europe, the Middle East and African markets.
