Faced with disappointing sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld and plummeting share prices, Eidos is considering how it can adapt their grave-robbing posh bird heroine Lara Croft to best appeal to a wider market.
Eidos shares slipped 30% last week as Christmas sales figures showed that the latest Tomb Raider outing had underperformed and the publisher is reportedly trying to expand the character’s appeal to a broader audience – particularly female gamers.
Eidos’ Robert Brent believes that such a move would parallel the way comic book characters are revamped and updated.
“We need to look at everything, as we develop the next game. Look at how Batman changed succesfully, from the rather sad character of the Michael Keaton era to the noir style of The Dark Knight,” Brent told Develop.
