Best camcorders of CES - Kodak ZX1

Kodak has just popped the lens cap off its new ZX1 pocket video camera, primed to take on the hot high definition Flip Mino HD. Like its rival the new Kodak ZX1 shoots 720p footage, saved onto an SD or SDHC memory card – it can stomach up to a 32GB card for around 10 hours of Hi-Def video.

Plus, it’s got a few other Mino-threatening talents tucked inside it’s curvy shell. Read on to get the full lowdown, first hands-on photos, price and release date.

Another of its smart skills is the ability to shoot video at 60fps, with the dual benefit of making fast action footage appear smoother, and also enabling you to playback footage shot at this faster frame rate in slow motion.

The ZX1 also comes with built-in video editing software so you can hack up your flicks on the trot. Plus, it’s powered by a pair of AA batteries, with the real benefit as ever being that you can juice up anywhere or go for the rechargeable option.

We had a very quick play with it, and on first impressions it feels reasonably slick – the curved bodywork isn’t quite as smart as the Flip Mino HD, although it was easy to use. We’re keen to see how good the footage is, and will be sure to let you know when we get hold of a finished version of the ZX1 in April. So stay tuned.

Out: April | £160 | Kodak
